Yaogu Buyi Village

Yaogu Village is located in the southwestern part of Yongkang Township, within the core area of a World Heritage Site, and is 18 kilometers from the county seat. The village consists of 63 households with a total population of 234, all of whom are ethnic Buyi. Its main sources of income are agriculture and animal husbandry, with an average per capita income of 2,046 yuan. In 2009, the villagers of Yaogu invested with their Buyi-style buildings and ethnic cultural resources to establish the first rural tourism professional cooperative in Libo and the entire province — the "Yaogu Village Tourism Professional Cooperative." They also formed folk dance and Nuo opera performance teams composed of local residents, adding significant cultural depth to the village. The houses here are stilted buildings in the traditional Buyi style, commonly known as "hanging-foot buildings." Ethnic festivals include the "Eighth Day of the Fourth Month," "Sixth Day of the Sixth Month," and "Ghost Festival (Seventeenth Day of the Seventh Month)."
