Yongji Spring

--Yongji Spring is located on the north side of the eastern section of Fanrong Road, Yuping Town, Libo County. In the ninth year of the Tongzhi reign during the Qing Dynasty (1870), Magistrate Qian Xun dug the spring to prevent rebel forces from cutting off the water supply during a siege of the city. The spring is a cylindrical well dug into flat ground, measuring 6.2 meters in diameter and 10.2 meters in depth, built with stone materials. The wellhead is an octagon with a 2-meter diameter. To draw water from the well, visitors must descend three sets of fifty stone steps and pass through three stone archways. The archways are 3.1 meters high and 2.6 meters wide, with a rise of 1.3 meters. A stone plaque inscribed with the bold characters “Yongji Spring” (Eternal Relief Spring) in regular script is embedded above the third archway. The upper right corner reads “Renovated in the mid-winter of the ninth year of Tongzhi,” while the lower left corner bears the signature “Inscribed by Qian Xun of Southern Yunnan.”

--The water in the spring is crystal clear. It is said that this well once supplied drinking water to half of Libo County, and some locals still use it for making tea and cooking. Standing by the well, you can feel an ancient, mysterious atmosphere, and its grand presence truly earns it the title of the finest well in Guizhou—definitely a must-see when visiting Libo.
