Liming Pass

Liming Pass, located in Banzhai Village, Dongtang Township, Maolan National Nature Reserve, Libo County, Guizhou Province, borders Sheshe Village, Chuanshan Township, Huanjiang Maonan Autonomous County, Guangxi. Historically, it served as an important transportation hub and center for political, economic, and cultural exchange between Guizhou and Guangxi, renowned for its access to Guangdong and the sea. The pass controlled the ancient postal route, flanked by steep cliffs on both sides, with only a narrow mountain path for passage, making the terrain extremely treacherous. The pass was built with stone blocks: the main wall is 20 meters long, 3.5 meters high, and 3 meters wide, with the passageway measuring 2.04 meters wide; additionally, a 50-meter-long stone wall was constructed along the mountain slope, equipped with a battlement every 1.5 meters. At the right end of the wall on the mountain, there is a gun emplacement and machine gun position. The pass resembles a crab’s pincer and is a historic battleground, having been a strategic location contested by military forces throughout the ages.

Located four to five kilometers southeast of the Banzhai Red Army Reunion Memorial Hall, Liming Pass is a strategic checkpoint along the ancient transport route connecting Guizhou and Guangxi. With its perilous terrain and commanding elevation, it holds the classic military advantage of “one man holding the pass against ten thousand.”

-- Liming Pass has now become a valuable site for scientific researchers studying karst forests, vegetation, animals, soil, meteorology, hydrology, geomorphology, and other aspects of the natural environment. It is also an exceptionally pristine scenic destination that has yet to be explored by the majority of tourists.
