Martyrs' Cemetery of Wang Yongbo and 32 Comrades

The Martyrs' Cemetery of Wang Yongbo and 32 Comrades is a cultural tourism attraction and a classic red tourism site.

The Martyrs' Cemetery of Wang Yongbo and 32 Comrades is located on Sanbao Mountain in Xinchangping, south of Wenquan Town, Xifeng County. Completed in 2005, the cemetery covers an area of 6,850 square meters and consists of three parts: 32 stone steps (symbolizing the 32 martyrs), a 19.5-meter-high martyrs' memorial monument (symbolizing the year 1950 when the martyrs sacrificed their lives), and the martyrs' tombs. It serves as a county-level patriotic education base in Xifeng County.

In early 1950, while people of all ethnic groups in Xifeng County were joyfully celebrating liberation, a bandit group known as the "China–Southwest Salvation–Qianbei Command" led by Yang Pingzhou rampaged across the region, burning, killing, and attacking district and township people's governments, posing a serious threat to the lives and property of local residents. On March 18 of the same year, Yang Pingzhou’s bandits joined forces with bandits led by Zeng Guangfu from Zunyi County and gathered in the Tiantai area of Wenquan, attempting to attack the counties of Kaiyang and Xifeng. Wang Yongbo, the first Party Committee Secretary of Xifeng County, and Wu Chuanyou, Deputy Commander of the Xifeng County People’s Liberation Army Regiment, quickly led a company of the county regiment to Tiantai to suppress the bandits upon receiving intelligence. As the troops entered Banqiao via Caoxianggou, they were ambushed by over 1,400 bandits. Once the battle began, Wang Yongbo bravely led his men in counterattacks, repelling more than ten enemy assaults, killing over 110 bandits and wounding 59. They successfully thwarted Yang Pingzhou’s plan to attack Kaiyang and Xifeng. However, due to the perilous terrain and being heavily outnumbered, Wang Yongbo and 32 other officers and soldiers sacrificed their lives heroically.

To honor the revolutionary martyrs and inspire future generations, the Xifeng County Party Committee and County Government raised over 400,000 yuan in October 2005 to construct the Martyrs' Cemetery of Wang Yongbo and 32 Comrades, and erected the “Martyrs’ Monument of Wang Yongbo and 32 Comrades” in their memory.
