The Site of the Southern Crossing of the Wu River by the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army was designated as a county-level cultural relics protection unit in 2011. It consists of the Datang Site of the Central Red Army’s Southern Crossing of the Wu River, the Liziyan Site of the Third Red Army Corps’ Southern Crossing of the Wu River, and the Jiangkou Site of the Fifth Red Army Corps’ Southern Crossing of the Wu River. On March 29, 1935, the 3rd Regiment of the 1st Division of the 1st Red Army Corps crossed the Wu River forcefully via Liziyan into Xifeng, swiftly occupying the Datang and Jiangkou crossing sites and building pontoon bridges to cover the main force’s river crossing. On March 30, the main force of the 1st Red Army Corps crossed the river via the Datang pontoon bridge into Niuchang (now Liuchang). The next day, the Red Army advanced southeastward into the county, splitting into left, center, and right columns. On March 30, the 3rd Red Army Corps crossed the river via the Liziyan pontoon bridge into Niuchang (now Liuchang), reaching Jiuzhuang the following day. On the same day, the 5th Red Army Corps crossed the river via the Datang and Jiangkou pontoon bridges. On March 31, Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, and Zhu De, leading the Central Military Commission and the 1st and 2nd Columns of the First Front Army, crossed the river via the Liziyan and Datang crossing sites, entering Niuchang (now Liuchang), where they commanded operations within Xifeng County. On April 3, the Red Army advanced into areas such as Xiuwen and Kaiyang.
