The Ming Dynasty Grand Drum Tower

The drum tower in Xixian County, also known as the Daguan Tower, was built during the Ming Dynasty and has a history of over 380 years. It is among the first batch of municipal-level cultural heritage protection units. Located in the center of the county town, it is a symbol of Xixian. Above the cross-shaped gate, there stands a two-story building with triple eaves and a cross-hipped roof, reaching a height of 14.31 meters. Majestic and imposing, the top of the tower is surrounded by four large plaques that reflect the glorious history of Xixian: the east side reads “Ancient Dragon Spring Prefecture,” the west “Longevity Heritage Seal,” the north “Mighty State of Shanxi,” and the south “Key Town of Hedong.” Its architectural style, beam structure, plaques, and other main components are all original Ming Dynasty elements, possessing high historical, artistic, and scientific value.
