The Nayanyi Village Buyi Opera Art Reserve in Badu Town is situated in the southeastern part of Ceheng County, about 54 kilometers from the county seat. In 2007, the village had a total population of 1,665, with 99.8% belonging to the Buyi ethnic group. There were 10 villagers with high school or vocational school education, 565 with junior high school education, and a children’s enrollment rate of 98%. The per capita grain consumption was 300 kilograms, and the per capita income was 760 yuan, with farming and animal husbandry as the main sources of livelihood.

The village is a cultural hub of the Buyi ethnic group, where Buyi opera has a history of over 180 years. After the Third Plenary Session of the 11th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, with the efforts of drama experts and scholars in excavation, organization, and guidance, the Buyi opera of the village saw rapid development. Currently, the Nayanyi Buyi Opera Troupe has its own directors, actors, and a complete set of costumes, props, and musical instruments. The troupe has performed multiple times at the county, prefecture, provincial, and even national levels in Beijing. In 1994, it was designated as the “Hometown of Buyi Opera Art” by the Guizhou Provincial Department of Culture, and in 1995, it received the same title from the Central Ministry of Culture.
