The main building of the Chengdu Locomotive and Rolling Stock Works

The main building of the Chengdu Locomotive and Rolling Stock Works is a cultural relic protection unit of Sichuan Province.

This was the first locomotive and rolling stock factory in New China to be independently designed and built; it was the first such factory in the national railway industry system to switch to overhauling diesel locomotives; and it was the first in the system to win the National Quality Management Gold Award.

This is the CRRC Chengdu Locomotive and Rolling Stock Works, located at No. 31, Erxianqiao North Road, Chenghua District, Chengdu. The factory’s predecessor was the Jiulonggang Locomotive Repair Works, affiliated with the Huainan Coal Mine in Anhui. Recently, reporters from the Chengdu Business Daily retraced the factory grounds with veteran employees, following in the footsteps of these seasoned workers and letting the camera transport us through time. The factory was temporarily relocated to Jiulongpo, Chongqing, in 1951, and moved to Chengdu in November 1954, officially being named the Chengdu Locomotive Repair Works. Over more than 60 years, the Chengdu Locomotive and Rolling Stock Works went through the steam era (1954–1968), the diesel era (1968–1998), and the era of parallel development across three sectors (1999–2013). In 2014, CRRC signed the “Chengdu Rail Transit Industrial Park Project Investment Agreement” with Xindu District, Chengdu. The factory then relocated from the urban area to the industrial park, constructing a new site and beginning a business transformation by entering the new field of urban rail manufacturing.
