Sitou Site (First Batch of Provincial-Level Protected Sites)

Era: Neolithic Age

Location: Approximately 100 meters west of Sitou Village, Dengzhuang Township, at the border between Xiangfen County and Yaodu District

About 100 meters west of Sitou Village

It is located on a foothill slope on the western side of Mount Ta'er, with the terrain sloping gently from east to west, and the Fen River flowing to its west. The site was discovered in the late 1950s. A revisit was conducted in 1996. The total area exceeds 100,000 square meters.

The main exposed features of the site include ash pits and lime-plastered house foundations. The unearthed artifacts are mainly pottery, predominantly featuring cord-marked and sand-tempered gray pottery, with vessel shapes such as li tripods, dou stem bowls, basins, jars, and bowls. Stone tools such as shovels and knives were also collected. Based on the pottery artifacts, they are largely similar to those unearthed from the Taosi Site. This site represents another important remnant of the Longshan-era Taosi culture.
