Era: Neolithic Age

Location: On the western bank of the Fen River, southwest of Dachai Village, Nanjia Town, Xiangfen County

Western Bank

Discovered in 1959, the site covers an area of approximately 80,000 square meters. In the spring of 1986, an excavation was carried out, covering an area of about 100 square meters. The cultural deposits at the site are relatively thick, and only ash pits have been identified among the remains, with a relatively simple cultural content. The artifacts are mainly pottery, predominantly made of gray clay pottery and gray sandy pottery. The pottery was mostly hand-made. The main decorative patterns are cord marks, along with additional appliqué patterns, string patterns, and scroll cloud motifs. Round-bottomed and three-legged vessels are the most common, while flat-bottomed and ring-footed vessels are less frequent. The main cooking utensils include li tripods, ?, and large deep-bellied jars.

Containers mainly consist of large-mouthed zun vessels, folded-shoulder jars, folded-shoulder urns, egg-shaped three-legged urns, and basins. Eating vessels include bowls, cups, and dou stem bowls. Wine vessels include only one broken jue and the tubular spout of a pottery horn.
