A village closely tied to a beautiful legend about the auspicious divine deer—Xialatuo Village has long sought to blend Tibetan, Han, and other cultures, forging its own distinct identity. The convergence and mutual promotion of various cultures have fostered among the villagers a commendable social atmosphere characterized by a passion for life, hard work, kindness, reverence for elders, care for the young, and solidarity. As a remote settlement away from urban areas, this village once served as a key resting place for the Red Army during the Long March in the Tibetan region and was also the settlement that took in and evacuated the largest number of wounded and sick Red Army soldiers at the time.

In this village, where “education is paramount and schooling is an honor,” 165 individuals are employed across various sectors. Among them, 8 hold leadership positions at the division level, 14 at the deputy division level, 63 at the section level, and 103 have received education at the college level or above. Two of the first 16 top-tier talents selected by Garzê Prefecture hail from Xialatuo Village. The village has also produced notable figures such as the late renowned Tibetan painter Ren Zhenlangjia.

Throughout its development, Xialatuo Village has consistently kept pace with the times. In this plateau village of 101 households and 448 people, every home is equipped with a TV receiver and television set, and over 60% of households have installed program-controlled telephones. The village boasts 55 professional transport households and has seen the emergence of privately-owned entrepreneurs renowned both within and beyond the prefecture. In 2002, with the arrival of an asphalt road at their doorstep, a new development opportunity emerged for Xialatuo Village. The villagers believe that, guided by the Party’s policies for enriching the people, as long as they keep up with the times and work diligently, a civilized and prosperous Xialatuo Village will surely rise on the Kangba Plateau.
