Hor Culture Tourism Scenic Area

The Hor Culture Tourism Scenic Area is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

Luding County is located in the central-northern part of Garzê Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province. It has historically been a vital thoroughfare from the Sichuan Basin to Tibet and Qinghai, as well as a key hub along the ancient Tea Horse Road. As the center of north Kang (a traditional region in Sichuan), Luding County is a transportation nexus and features a semi-agricultural, semi-pastoral economy.

In the center of Luding County lies the well-known Hor Square. Ascending the steps along Hor Avenue, you will reach the square’s four-pillar, two-gateway archway-style entrance—simple and classic in design—with the four golden Tibetan characters for “Hor Square” inlaid on the gate.

On either side of the gate stand two antique-style watchtowers of differing heights. Modeled after existing ancient watchtowers in Luding’s Niba Gully and Ala Gully, these towers are built from layered stone and mortar, adorned with decorative coloring throughout, presenting a majestic and splendid appearance. Extending from both sides of the towers are corridors leading to two symmetrical, corner-turning, two-story flat-roofed buildings with modified residential designs—embodying an elegant and luxurious style of modern dwellings—the Luding Ethnic Museum.

The interior decoration of the museum is highly distinctive, featuring many precious cultural relics on display.

The museum covers a total area of 1,950 square meters and includes six exhibition halls: the Stone Coffin Culture Exhibition, Thangka Culture Exhibition, Red Culture Exhibition, Earthquake Culture Exhibition, and Religious Culture Exhibition. Additionally, there are four other exhibition rooms, such as the County Annals Information Room and the Eco-Culture Exhibition Room. The museum houses over a thousand precious cultural relics and more than 8,000 various documents. Whether in terms of software infrastructure, or the quantity, variety, and rarity of its collections, the Luding Museum ranks among the “most notable” across the entire Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.
