Gajin Snow Mountain

Gajin Snow Mountain is located 40 km northwest of Derong County and stands at an elevation of 4,921 m. It is the main forested area of Derong County. From the summit of Gajin Snow Mountain, you can look east to worship Mount Wengjia, and to the southwest, gaze upon the dozens of kilometers of ridgelines of the famous Yunnan Baimang Snow Mountain, presenting a spectacular view as if a giant dragon has soared from the horizon. The mountains of Gajin Snow Mountain are connected one after another, and the trees lean on each other. The roads leading to Gajin Snow Mountain are lined with continuous stretches of fir, spruce, larch, and Masson's pine. Along the way, you’ll encounter people who have long lived in the mid-high mountain areas. In this unique natural environment, they have created the distinctive culture and charm of the Khampa people. Here, you can find the long-passed-down "Rongxie," one of the oldest forms of string instrument dance songs. On festive days, villagers living in these mid-high mountain regions dress in the ancient and simple "Xiatao" (one of the oldest Tibetan costumes in Derong County), and perform the joyful Rongxie dances. Through their singing and dancing, they share stories of labor, life, and love, while also praying for the blessings of the gods.
