Longcanggou National Forest Park
Longcanggou National Forest Park is a national-level forest park.
The forest park is situated in the transitional zone from the mountainous area on the western edge of the Sichuan Basin to the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. In terms of geomorphological zoning, it belongs to the Emei mid-mountain region, and geologically, it lies at the southern end of the Longmen Mountain fold belt, on the northern side of the eastern extension of the Daxiangling Range. It is surrounded by high mountains, with slopes and ridges crisscrossing the area. The geological structure mainly consists of ancient rock layers formed before the Triassic period, such as Emei basalt, granite, andesite, and sandstone. The main types of soil in the park include mountain yellow soil, mountain yellow-brown soil, mountain dark brown soil, and mountain brown forest soil. The park has three major water systems: Renren Gully, Longcanggou, and Macao River. Mountain streams and small rivers flow continuously and eventually converge into the Huangsha River and Heishi River before flowing into the Jing River.
The park boasts a beautiful forest environment, a rich variety of plant species, and abundant scenic resources. The zonal vegetation is subtropical evergreen broad-leaved forest, and in terms of vegetation zoning, it falls within the mid-mountain vegetated region of the western Sichuan Basin, specifically the northeastern vegetation subzone of the Daxiangling Range. Its vertical vegetation spectrum is complete and well-defined, with a total of 450 species of woody plants belonging to 216 genera and 77 families. There are also 98 species of wild animals, including 45 species of birds (from 9 orders, 15 families), 32 species of mammals (from 6 orders, 21 families), 13 species of reptiles (from 2 orders, 6 families), and 8 species of amphibians (from 2 orders, 5 families). The forest is distributed in a well-arranged, vibrant, and diverse manner—some trees stand tall and straight, others have twisted branches hanging down, some are delicate and charming, while others are graceful and elegant, all of which are truly refreshing to the eye. The seasonal changes are rich, with each season offering a unique landscape that is a delight for visitors. In spring, all plants come back to life, competing to sprout new buds, with flowers blooming in vibrant colors; in summer, the dense green canopy is lush and dripping with moisture, accompanied by the sounds of butterflies and birds, creating a cool and pleasant atmosphere; in autumn, the red leaves blaze with color, presenting a rich and splendid palette, with crisp, refreshing air and enchanting scenery; in winter, the landscape is covered in silvery white, with frost-covered trees resembling jade and ice blossoms.
The natural landscape of the park is soft, beautiful, and serene. Surrounded by high mountains, the terrain within the park features gentle undulations, giving off a mild and soothing beauty. However, the micro-terrain is complex and ever-changing, with numerous small hills forming a labyrinth-like landform. Streams crisscross the area, flowing along the mountains, while the mountains curve with the streams. The cliffs on both sides of the streams are enhanced by the water’s presence, and the streams themselves take on varied forms due to the winding rocks. Peaks, ridges, forts, valleys, plains, caves, along with streams, cascades, and waterfalls, together create a stunning natural landscape painting.
