Yuanqi Temple

Yuanqi Temple is a National Key Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

Located at the foot of Phoenix Mountain, 22 kilometers northeast of Lucheng City, the surging Zhang River flows along the mountainside. Across the river stands a 22-arch stone bridge called Xin’an Bridge. To the west of the bridge, there is an over 80-meter-high earthen cliff, on which sits a man-made stone platform more than 10 meters high. On top of the platform lies an ancient temple covering an area of 1,200 square meters. The temple is named Yuanqi Temple. Originally built in the sixth year of the Tianbao era of the Tang Dynasty (747 AD), the temple has undergone maintenance and expansion through the dynasties, resulting in a mixed architectural style of the Tang and Song periods. It is relatively well-preserved and is a key cultural relic protected at the provincial level in Shanxi.
