From October 1938 to July 8, 1939, the Eighth Route Army crossed the Yellow River, advanced into the Taihang Mountains, and established the North China Anti-Japanese Base Area. After moving through 56 villages, the Commander-in-Chief relocated from the suburbs of Changzhi City to Beicun. This was the first long-term base during the Eighth Route Army Headquarters’ eastward expedition, before later moving to Zhuanbi Village in Wuxiang County. The Commander-in-Chief, Deputy Commander Peng Dehuai, Deputy Chief of Staff Zuo Quan, Secretary of the CPC Central Committee’s Northern Bureau -, Commander of the 129th Division -, and Political Commissar - and other veteran proletarian revolutionaries led and directed guerrilla warfare in the North China Anti-Japanese Base Area here, as well as the struggles against “encirclement and suppression” and “friction,” laying a solid foundation for the complete victory of the War of Resistance Against Japan.

The Beicun site currently preserves six courtyards with a total of 175 rooms, including the headquarters, the Northern Bureau, the Quartermaster Department, the Guard Company, the Headquarters Military Law Office, and the Lu Yi (Lu Xun Academy of Arts) residence, covering an area of approximately 4,800 square meters.

Beicun Village, Dianshang Town, is located in the western suburbs of Lucheng, by the Zhuozhang River, enjoying a prominent geographical location and convenient transportation. Its leading industry is coking. It was the first long-term base of the Eighth Route Army headquarters after crossing the Yellow River, advancing into the Taihang Mountains, and establishing the North China Anti-Japanese Base Area.
