Meiwán Lake

Meiwán Lake, also known as Meiwán Reservoir, was originally called "Méizǐ Yàn" (Plum Weir). Located in Meiwán Village, Shuāngqiáo Town, Dānléng County, it is six kilometers from the county seat. Built as an artificial lake during the intensive water conservancy development of the 1970s, it has a catchment area of 15.3 square kilometers, a total storage capacity of 10.15 million cubic meters, and an irrigation area designed to cover 31,600 mu. As a medium-sized water conservancy project, it ranks first among Dānléng’s water projects. The water from Meiwán Lake irrigates fields and nourishes the region centered around Meiwán Village, creating a picturesque landscape where over 8,000 mu of peach orchards and more than 30,000 mu of citrus groves thrive in harmony. The area enjoys year-round blooms and fruit, along with scenic beauty of mountains and waters. Mr. Wèi Mínglún praised it as a “land of idyllic beauty” in his “Ode to Peach Blossoms,” and Meiwán Village has been honored as “China’s Beautiful Countryside,” “National Agricultural Eco-tourism Demonstration Site,” “Provincial Rural Tourism Demonstration Village,” and “One of Sichuan Province’s Top Ten Most Valuable Tourism Villages.”

The crystal-clear waters of Meiwán Lake nourish this idyllic landscape, giving rise to miles of peach blossoms in spring, the fragrance of vast citrus groves in early summer, and a continuous cycle of blooming flowers and ripening fruits throughout all seasons. The poetic scenery captivates visitors, making them linger and forget to return. Leveraging its industrial foundation and tourism resources, the area has also driven the agricultural and rural tourism development of neighboring villages such as Lónggěng, Shíhé, Xīnglóng, and Hóngshí, forming a rural tourism zone centered on Meiwán Village, characterized primarily by peach blossom viewing and fruit-picking experiences. With flowers and fruit as its medium and culture as its soul, our county has held the “Orange & Peach Blossom Festival” at Meiwán Lake for nine consecutive years. Themed “Admire Peach Blossoms, Taste Fresh Fruit, Savor Local Cuisine, and Enjoy Ecology,” the festival highlights the region’s natural charm and cultural richness.
