Jiulong Mountain is located in the southeast of Yangchang Town, Danling County, bordering Jiajiang, Hongya, and Dongpo District. It is about 13 kilometers from the county seat of Danling. The name comes from the nine undulating peaks on both sides of Jinniu Lake, which from afar resemble a dragon lying down to drink water, and up close show green mountains reflecting in the blue waters and rippling waves among the hills. Surrounded by mountains and water, the area enjoys the reputations of a “natural oxygen bar” and a “water maze.” In 2003, it was designated as a “provincial-level forest park.”

Jiulongshan Provincial Forest Park has an elevation of 450–692 meters and covers an area of 5,700 mu, including a core zone of 1,500 mu. The mountain receives an annual rainfall of 1,130 mm and has an average annual temperature of 18.5°C. With a forest coverage rate of 86%, the area enjoys a mild climate, fresh air, serene and elegant surroundings, birdsong, floral fragrance, and pleasant scenery. The region features natural landscapes such as Zhaiziyá, Ancient Buddha Rock, One-Line Sky, Bamboo Grove Moonlight, and Jinniu Lake. Among them, “Bamboo Grove Moonlight” is one of the ancient Eight Scenic Spots of Danling. Historical records indicate that during the Qing Dynasty’s Daoguang era, Magistrate Mao Zhenshou of Danling County personally inscribed the name on the cliff. A poem reads: “Cold mist parts to reveal autumn in the woods; dew falls as the sky lifts and moon fills the tower. Ancient trees and deep bamboo in silent mountains; poetic hearts and dreams drift far and wide.” This captures the essence of “Bamboo Grove Moonlight.”

Hidden deep in the mountains is also a thousand-year-old ancient temple — Bamboo Grove Temple. Initially built during the Eastern Han Dynasty, it was first called Jingzhong Temple. During the Tang Dynasty’s Yuanhe era, it was renamed “Bamboo Grove Temple” because 30,000 bamboo poles were planted across 300 mu around the temple. During the Five Dynasties period, the “poet monk Kepeng” became a monk here and later served as abbot. He wrote the famous poem “Plowing Drum”: “The farmer’s drum at the field’s edge, the noble’s drum at the feast. Both strike drums, yet how different their joy and toil? Above, the scorching sun; below, the parched earth. May Heaven send rain to ripen mulberry and hemp, fill granaries, and bring no hunger or cold, so all may have enough.” The poem reflects the hardships of farmers’ labor and satirizes the then-Danling County Magistrate Ouyang Jiong’s indifference to people’s suffering and his indulgence in wine and pleasure.

Yangchang Town: Yangchang Town is located in the southeast of Danling County, Meishan City, in central Sichuan Province. It borders Dongpo District of Meishan City to the east, Jiajiang County of Leshan City to the south, Hongya County of Meishan City to the west, and Danling Town, Shuangqiao Town, and Renmei Town of Danling County to the north. Its geographical coordinates are 103°32′ east longitude and 29°55′ north latitude, about 15 kilometers from the county seat.

Yangchang Town was known as Zhàtóu Town during the Song Dynasty when the area was divided into four towns and seven townships under the county. In the Ming Dynasty, it was called Sòngdélǐ, and in the Qing Dynasty, it was Yìshèng Township. By the end of the Xianfeng era, it was under the jurisdiction of Yuánzì Bǎo and Rénzì Bǎo.
