Daya Cultural Tourism Scenic Area

The Daya Cultural Tourism Scenic Area is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

“Only those of true refinement may ascend the Hall of Great Refinement as my teachers and friends; only works of true refinement may enter this hall to commune with me in spirit.” This is a famous quote by Huang Tingjian of the Northern Song Dynasty. A disciple of Su Dongpo, Huang once resided in Meishan. According to the “Sichuan General Gazetteer: Record of Daya Hall,” while traveling upstream from Jiangling in Hubei in search of the traces of Du Fu and revisiting his poetry, Huang conceived the idea of personally transcribing over 800 of Du Fu’s poems from the Two Sichuan and Kuizhou regions, carving them onto stone tablets, and placing them in the homes of literary-minded poetry lovers in Shu, “so that the great refined tones, long buried, might once again fill the ears of the land of Three Ba.” At the time, Yang Su, a wealthy local from Danling (then known as Tongyi Commandery) and the maternal grandfather of the Southern Song historian Li Tao, learned of Huang’s noble intention. He earnestly requested Huang to bestow his handwritten calligraphy of Du Fu’s poems. Yang then financed the engraving of these poems onto stone tablets and commissioned the construction of a grand pavilion to preserve these precious Du Fu steles for posterity. This is the renowned Daya Hall of the Northern Song Dynasty, which was built three kilometers south of Danling County and now stands in Yangwan of Gaomiaogou, Chalin Village, Danling Town.
