The Phoenix Mountain Tourist Area is located on the east bank of the Mi River Bridge (also known as the Covered Bridge) to the east of the county town. Phoenix Mountain resembles a phoenix spreading its wings as it perches by the babbling waters; the mountain looks beautiful because of the water, and the water appears clear because of the mountain. The ridges are steep with lush grass, fragrant flowers, dense woods, and towering pines and cypresses. The air is refreshing, the breeze mild, the sunlight bright. Cicadas chirp from the branches, butterflies flutter among the blossoms. “Spring has its flowers, autumn its moon, summer its cool breeze, and winter its snow.” Each season offers its own unique scenic splendor.

At the mountain’s peak lies the “Dongshu Pavilion,” wreathed in purple clouds, while midway up the slope stands the Buddhist sanctuary “Fengling Temple,” nestled amid a sea of green. Structures such as the Mahavira Hall, Skanda Hall, Guanyin Hall, Yuantong Treasure Hall, Heavenly King Hall, Kṣitigarbha Hall, Reclining Buddha Hall, Dharma Lecture Hall, Scripture Depository, the “Vimalakirti Hermitage” founded by the Buddhist scholar Yuan Huancian, and the tourist reception center are spread out across the scenic area, covering a total floor space of over 27,000 square meters. These buildings are laid out in an elegant layout that imitates the traditional classical architectural styles of the Ming and Qing dynasties. Their unique designs and exquisite craftsmanship give the area a grand, magnificent, dignified, and classic elegance, with a timeless charm.
