Red Sea Ecological Tourism Scenic Area

This project is situated in Longdong Bay, Baofan Town, Pengxi County, and is an ecological tourism resort invested in by Sichuan Red Sea Ecological Agriculture Tourism Development Company. Its construction took place from 2012 to 2018 and it is classified as a key municipal-level project. The planned development area spans 8 square kilometers, with a projected total investment of 1.5 billion yuan. It mainly includes three major components: the Colorful Forest Garden, Longdong Ancient Town, and Longdong Water Town (which encompasses Longdong Stone City). The area is being developed in three phases to become a national 4A-level scenic spot and a provincial-to-national-level tourism resort. To date, the project has achieved an accumulated investment of around 700 million yuan, and it has been successfully designated as a national 4A-level scenic area (official designation conferred). In 2013, the Hongxing Reservoir, where the scenic area is located, was awarded the title of “Top Ten Artificial Lakes in Sichuan Province.” Since its opening on October 26, 2013, the Red Sea Scenic Area has welcomed nearly 432,000 visitors and generated approximately 78.2 million yuan in tourism revenue. Currently, the company plans to invest around 800 million yuan to initiate the second and third phases of development.

Leveraging over 3,000 acres of colorful forests and the outstanding natural ecological resources of Hongxing Reservoir, the project centers around “Ba-Shu culture” and embodies the themes of nature’s red, revolutionary red, and folk red to shape its identity. “Nature’s red” refers to the distinct red foliage of the more than 3,000-acre colorful forest. The “Longdong Ancient Town” employs a completely new model of off-site centralized protection, gathering and preserving over 100 individual structures spanning more than 40,000 square meters—scattered across folk sites, difficult to protect, and at risk of destruction—and repurposing them into an authentic “Central Sichuan Ancient Residential Conservation Area.” This creative approach has become a highlight of the site.
