The Pengxi Kuang Jixun Memorial Hall is a classic red tourism destination and a patriotic education base.

On June 29, 1929, Kuang Jixun, an early senior commander of the Chinese Communist Party, led more than 4,000 officers and soldiers in declaring an uprising in Niujiaogou, Pengxi County, raising the banner of the First Route of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army in Sichuan. This uprising established Sichuan’s first red political power—the Pengxi County Soviet Government. Eighty years later, the Kuang Jixun Memorial Hall, themed around commemorating Kuang Jixun, the Niujiaogou Uprising, and Sichuan’s first red political power, was officially opened to the public in Pengxi County.

It is reported that, in order to promote the great achievements of revolutionary martyrs and deepen patriotic education, the Pengxi County government invested 5.1 million yuan to build the Kuang Jixun Memorial Hall, which includes Jixun Park, the mountain gate, exhibition halls, and more. The total area of the exhibition halls is 900 square meters.

Kuang Jixun, styled Jichen, was born in the 21st year of the Guangxu reign during the Qing Dynasty (1895) in Sinan County, Guizhou Province. As a child, he attended private school for three years. In 1911, at the age of 16, he joined anti-Qing railroad protection volunteer forces in Sichuan. In 1912, he enlisted in the Sichuan Army under Lai Xinhui, rose to company commander in 1920, and then to battalion commander in 1923. Influenced by the publication “Guide,” he spread revolutionary theories within his own unit. In 1925, his unit was integrated into the Yangtze River Defense Forces under Deng Xihou and the command of Huang Yin, where he served in positions such as regimental and brigade commander.
