Micang Mountain Grand Canyon

The Micang Mountain Grand Canyon is a national scenic area and a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

The Micang Mountain Grand Canyon Scenic Area is situated on the southern slopes of the Micang Mountains at the Sichuan-Shaanxi border, within the territories of Wanjia Township and Yanhe Township in Wangcang County, Guangyuan City, over 60 kilometers from the county seat of Wangcang. Centered around Longtan Gorge, it stretches from Baoshi Beach in the west to Cizhuba in the east, from Kangjiawan and Wangjiang Temple in the north to the sheer cliffs on the southern side of Longtan Gorge in the south, covering an area of 3.55 square kilometers. The scenic area consists of major natural attractions such as Hidden Eighteen Pools, Longtan Canyon, and Longtan Waterfall. It is characterized by its unique geological formations, featuring a diverse array of landscapes including potholes, canyons, cliffs, peak clusters, stone seas, waterfalls, hanging springs, autumn foliage, and rock formations resembling animals and objects. The Longtan Waterfall boasts a drop of 150 meters, making it the highest in northeastern Sichuan and the tallest waterfall in the Qinba region. The Hidden Dragon Eighteen Pools represent the largest and most densely distributed cluster of tiered potholes known in China. The bead-like arrangement of these pools, together with the waterfalls and cliffs, forms a rare natural wonder in the world. The scenic area is home to 241 species of vertebrates, 240 species of birds, and over 70 species of fish, making it one of the regions with the highest biodiversity in China. It showcases distinct seasonal features: blooming mountain flowers in spring, clear green waters and lush mountains in summer, red foliage covering the hills in autumn, and snow-clad landscapes in winter.

The Micang Mountain Grand Canyon Scenic Area spans approximately 265 square kilometers. It was formed by integrating important natural, historical, and cultural attractions—including the Micang Mountain Grand Canyon itself, Hanwang Mountain, and the site of the Mumen Conference—on the foundation of the former provincial-level "Gucheng Mountain – Qili Gorge" Scenic Area. The scenic area contains nearly 100 attractions, primarily showcasing mountain, water, and canyon landscapes, while also incorporating forests, springs, caves, and red culture. Its features are known as “majestic, spectacular, ancient, and revolutionary,” fully reflecting the harmonious coexistence of humanity and nature.

In April 2017, the Micang Mountain Grand Canyon Scenic Area was designated as part of the ninth batch of national scenic areas.
