Xiangchen Temple

Xiangchen Temple is a cultural relic protection unit of Sichuan Province.

Xiangchen Temple is located in Yuejin Community, Xiangchen Town, Jiange County, Guangyuan City, Sichuan Province. Originally built during the Yuan Dynasty, the existing structures consist of five parts: the Heavenly King Hall, the Grand Buddha Hall, the Guanyin Hall, and left and right wing rooms, covering a total floor area of 622 square meters. The overall architectural structure remains well-preserved, making it a rare example of temple complexes from the Yuan and Ming Dynasties in Sichuan Province.

Historical Background

During the Yuan Dynasty, Mu Dacheng built Xiangchen Temple, which is located 80 kilometers south of Jiange Prefecture. The temple’s name comes from the meaning of “heavy incense lingering in the air.”

In March 1988, the People's Government of Jiange County designated it as a county-level cultural relic protection unit.

On July 16, 2012, the People's Government of Sichuan Province approved Xiangchen Temple as the eighth batch of provincial-level cultural relic protection units in Sichuan Province.

Architectural Layout

The existing buildings of Xiangchen Temple include five parts: the Heavenly King Hall, the Grand Buddha Hall, the Guanyin Hall, and left and right wing rooms, covering a total floor area of 622 square meters. The overall architectural structure remains well-preserved. Among them, the Heavenly King Hall serves as the front hall, the Grand Buddha Hall is the main hall positioned in the center, and the Guanyin Hall functions as the rear hall.

In July 2012, Xiangchen Temple was listed as the eighth batch of provincial-level cultural relic protection units in Sichuan Province.

Protected Area: The protected site extends 11 meters to the east, 15 meters to the west, and 10 meters to both the south and north.

Construction Control Zone: An additional 10-meter buffer zone extends beyond the protected area.
