Chongxia Pagoda

Chongxia Pagoda is a Sichuan Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

Chongxia Pagoda is located on Pagoda Hill in Wenhuan Village, east of Cangxi County, Guangyuan. It stands alone majestically atop a tree-covered summit. The pagoda was first built in the sixth year of the Tianqi era (1626), during the reign of the "Carpenter Emperor" Zhu Youjiao. It has been rebuilt and renovated twice—once due to years of disrepair and again following the Wenchuan earthquake. As one of the three main attractions of the 4A-level scenic area “Hongjun Ferry · Xiwudang Mountain Scenic Area,” the newly restored Chongxia Pagoda enjoys great fame in Cangxi and was designated as a Sichuan Provincial Cultural Relics Protection Unit in 2007. The path to Chongxia Pagoda is quite long, and the seemingly endless stone steps leading up to it can be intimidating. The pagoda is a pavilion-style brick structure, with eaves that gradually taper inward by floor, giving it an overall conical shape and making it appear particularly towering and majestic. Its spire points directly toward the sky, exuding solemn dignity. The base and the first floor are constructed from stone, while each of the upper floors is made of hexagonal bricks—skillfully laid. The pagoda is snow-white, which is why locals call it the White Pagoda. Inside, there is a circular staircase; climbing it, you’ll find that each level has wall windows. Through these windows, and thanks to the pagoda’s height, visitors can enjoy sweeping views of the surrounding landscape of Pagoda Hill. Gazing out, the lush green mountains and forests create a truly refreshing and uplifting experience.

On July 8, 1988, the Guangyuan Municipal Government designated it as a municipal cultural relics protection unit. Surrounded by lush woods and connected with Hongjun Ferry and Wudang Mountain, the pagoda is a popular destination for both urban and rural residents of Cangxi.

Protected area: With the outer edge of the pagoda’s base as the baseline, it extends 12 meters east and west, 60 meters south, and 30 meters north.

Construction control zone: The protected area extends 80 meters east, 90 meters west, 80 meters south, and 120 meters north.
