Ganjinggou Scenic Area

A municipal-level scenic spot in Chongqing. Located in Huangjin Town, 4 kilometers west of Zhong County in Chongqing. Accessible by bus from downtown Chongqing via the Shanghai–Chengdu Expressway to Zhong County. It is 182 kilometers from downtown Chongqing. This is a canyon-style natural scenic area. The construction and impoundment of the Three Gorges Reservoir have created a high-gorge, flat-lake landscape.

The Ganjinggou Scenic Area features two streams, the Qijia River and the Huangjin River, which converge into Ganjinggou at Sanjiaotan. These streams flow through deep mountain canyons, with sheer cliffs rising as high as 100 meters on either side. The area combines the grandeur of the greater Three Gorges with the serenity of the lesser Three Gorges. Along the way, key attractions include the Sanjiao, Xianglong, Yu Jian, and Huangjin rapids. Scattered throughout are numerous naturally formed waterfalls with varying styles and year-round flowing water. There is also the vividly shaped Yangzi Cliff, standing upright on the precipice. Ancient stepping stones, once built by predecessors for river crossings and still in use today, can be found here. The site hosts one of the world’s oldest salt production facilities, with salt wells of various sizes scattered across the area. The Zhongba Site, rated among China’s top ten archaeological discoveries in 1997, is also located here. With a cultural layer up to 12.5 meters thick, it offers an exceptionally well-preserved glimpse into the history of Ba culture. The well-preserved ancient Golden Town features dense stilted houses that silently recount the prosperity this place once enjoyed. The area also offers leisure farms, water amusement parks, archery ranges, and other recreational facilities. It is an ideal destination for visitors to relax, vacation, and enjoy nature.
