Hechuan Sanjiang National Wetland Park is a national-level wetland park.

The construction of Hechuan Sanjiang National Wetland Park has commenced, and it will eventually become a "Wetland Science Park" integrating wetland culture exhibition, science education, leisure and recreation, experiential sightseeing, scientific research, and ecological civilization education.

The Sanjiang National Wetland Park was recently completed in 2019, with full completion achieved in 2021. In other words, you’ll be able to visit the wetland park in just two years.

One park, three rivers

The convergence of the Jialing River, Fu River, and Qu River within Hechuan is a rare sight even across the country.

Strolling along Hechuan’s riverside road allows you to enjoy the beautiful scenery of “the city in the water, the city and water in harmony.” Standing at the Senkai Road viewing platform in Hechuan, you’ll find Wengfeng Ancient Street across the river, with the tall Wengfeng Pagoda and traditional buildings of blue bricks and black tiles reflected on the shimmering river surface.

Mr. Peng, who lives along Jiabin Road, says that taking an evening walk by the river with the whole family has become their most delightful activity. Additionally, some go jogging in the morning, while others chat over tea in the evening—here, you’ll find the charming slow life of a small town.

Rivers, city, parks, forests, fields, villages, and wetlands have become unique landscape resources of Hechuan, which is now developing into a waterfront eco-friendly livable city.

Hechuan Sanjiang National Wetland Park, located within Hechuan, has a planned total area of 3,860.15 hectares, including 2,585.86 hectares of wetland, with a wetland rate of 66.99%.

It’s the only wetland park in the city that encompasses three rivers. The scope of Hechuan Sanjiang National Wetland Park includes: the main stream of the Jialing River from Quhe Mouth to approximately 34.8 kilometers within Hechuan, the Fu River from the Weituo Hydropower Station Dam to the Jialing River boundary for 22.1 kilometers, as well as the Xiao’anxi River (a first-level tributary of the Fu River) and the Baissuixi River (a first-level tributary of the Jialing River). For the Jialing and Fu River sections, the boundary is set at the 5-year flood level line, and within the city, it follows the outer edge of the riverside greenbelt; for the Xiao’anxi area, the boundary is the top of the embankment.

A park built over five years

“Hechuan boasts excellent natural and cultural resources, which need to be comprehensively protected and scientifically utilized to provide residents with an ecological and green living environment,” said a person in charge from the Hechuan District Forestry Bureau. Hechuan aims to develop the Sanjiang National Wetland Park into a national model for the conservation and utilization of the “river-reservoir pond” wetland complex ecosystem, as well as a demonstration base for wetland network conservation, restoration, and science education within the Jialing River Basin.

The internationally renowned Fishing Town Ancient Battlefield site in Hechuan will be fully developed into a wetland eco-tourism destination in the Jialing River Basin, featuring complete infrastructure, unique wetland landscapes, and rich wetland and historical culture. It will become a wetland park for “science education, leisure, and entertainment,” attracting more visitors.

Currently, the Hechuan Sanjiang National Wetland Park has initiated preliminary work, with its plan having passed expert review by the National Forestry Administration and approval for pilot construction.

According to reports, the construction period of Hechuan Sanjiang National Wetland Park spans from 2017 to 2021, totaling five years. It is divided into short-term and long-term phases: the short-term phase is from 2017 to 2019, and the long-term phase is from 2020 to 2021.
