Low-mountain rainforest
Distributed at altitudes below 600 meters. The main dominant species include Myrsine seguinii, Hopea hainanensis, Ormosia pinnata, Litchi chinensis, Podocarpus nagi, Pouteria macrophylla, Ardisia gigantifolia, Lasianthus chinensis, Psychotria rubra, Syzygium cumini, and Acmena acuminatissima. There are primarily three layers: the tree layer, shrub layer, and ground cover layer. It is characterized by an abundance of lianas, many cauliflorous species, and often mixed with some semi-deciduous trees such as Ardisia gigantifolia and Acmena acuminatissima. Many tree species in the low-mountain rainforest’s tree layer are valuable timber trees, growing to heights of over 30–40 meters, often featuring buttress roots, large woody lianas, and epiphytic or parasitic plants.
