Hainan West Coast Haiwei Wetland Park is located within the Shigangtang wetland area of Haiwei Town in Changjiang Li Autonomous County in the western part of Hainan Province. The park covers an area of 4,448 mu, and its landform types consist of flat thickland and coastal sandy beach landforms. There are no major rivers in the region, and surface water mainly comes from the Jigoutian water channel, which can gather rainwater from dozens of square kilometers in the surrounding area during the rainy season. Due to its proximity to the sea, the groundwater here is extremely abundant.

Through field surveys, indoor classification, identification, analysis, and statistics, it has been found that the area is home to 255 species of vascular plants belonging to 79 families. The vegetation consists of both natural and artificial types, including aquatic lotus, eucalyptus forests, casuarina trees, sandy shrubbery, and aquatic vegetation. Animal types include rice frogs, marsh frogs, decorated froglets, and flowered froglets. Reptiles include water snakes and freshwater turtles; there are 69 species of birds across 36 families and 14 orders, such as ring-necked pheasants (héng), ospreys, sandpipers, red Knots (yù), and Kentish plovers (jí

líng), primarily comprising brown-winged cuckoos, spotted doves, little swifts, little egrets, cattle egrets, Chinese pond herons, brown shrikes, and Japanese white-eyes. Ducks, rails, shorebirds (héng), and heron species are the most distinctive birds in this area.

The wetlands include marsh wetlands and coastal wetlands, with a vegetation coverage of ≥30%. This is one of the better-preserved and relatively rare inland freshwater marsh wetlands in Hainan. The area boasts rich tourism resources and is an ideal destination for eco-tourism, sightseeing, leisure, and science education.

In recent years, with strong support from the Changjiang County Party Committee and County Government, Hainan West Coast Haiwei Wetland Park has achieved further development and now has basic reception capabilities. Many visitors come specifically to witness the wonders of nature, and many find themselves lingering, reluctant to leave.
