The Lingao Cape Tourist Area is a national AA-level tourist attraction.

Lingao Cape, located at the northern tip of Lingao County in Hainan, faces the Beibu Gulf to the north and looks across the sea to the Leizhou Peninsula. It lies between Haikou City and the Yangpu Economic Development Zone, about 10 kilometers from the county seat.

Lingao Cape is a prominent cape jutting out into the Qiongzhou Strait, surrounded by the sea on three sides and boasting a 7-kilometer-long coastline. At the tip of the cape extends a 250-meter-long natural tide-blocking reef wall that stretches straight into the sea. you can witness the spectacular sight of the sunrise over the sea. Along the shore, a one-kilometer-long beach has natural swimming areas on both the east and west sides—one side is calm with clear waters, a flat seabed, snow-white and soft sand, while the other side features rolling waves and foamy spray, exuding a majestic aura, often referred to as the “Autumn Waves of the South China Sea.” On the shore, there is an ancient beacon tower and an iron lighthouse built in 1893 (the 19th year of the Guangxu reign in the Qing Dynasty) by the Qiongzhou Customs. Standing 22 meters tall and 1.88 meters wide, its light can shine tens of miles to guide ships at night, making it a renowned international navigational landmark. The coastline is lined with green forests and blooming flowers. On April 17, 1950, the Chinese People’s Liberation Army landed here to liberate Hainan Island. On April 17, 1995, the “45th Anniversary Commemoration of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army and the Foundation-Laying Ceremony of the Liberation of Hainan Statue” were grandly held at Lingao Cape, adding even more glory to the site.

The Lingao Cape shoreline features a kilometer-long beach with crystal-clear seawater, soft white sand, swaying coconut groves, and abundant sunshine, making it one of the finest natural swimming spots on Hainan’s western coast. On both the east and west sides of the beach—the west side known as “Dapeng Bay” is calm and peaceful, while the east side is where rolling waves crash and autumn winds bring continuous roaring tides, hence called the “Autumn Waves of the South China Sea.” Here stands an ancient lighthouse built a hundred years ago, a famous international navigational landmark. On April 17, 1950, the Chinese People’s Liberation Army landed here first in wooden sailboats, crossing the Qiongzhou Strait to liberate Hainan.

A touching story is told about the beautiful Lingao Cape in Hainan: It is said that long ago, beneath Lingao Cape lived a beautiful fairy who deeply loved a handsome young man from beneath the Lighthouse Cape on the Leizhou Peninsula. The two were determined to build a causeway connecting Lighthouse Cape and Lingao Cape. Their sincerity moved the sea turtles and seabirds, which helped pile up the reef causeway. Just as it was about to be completed, a patrolling sea demon saw it, conjured up wind and rain, and destroyed the causeway. The fairy and the young man died for love in the sea. The man turned into Lighthouse Cape, and the woman became Lingao Cape, gazing at each other year after year.
