Monument to Martyr Wang Wenru

The Monument to Martyr Wang Wenru is located in Jiadiaopo Village, Wenru Township, Chengmai County. It was built on February 12, 1959, and rebuilt in January 1991. The site covers an area of 1,332 square meters. The monument faces east and is situated to the west, with a height of 6.18 meters, a base 1.8 meters wide, and a pedestal 1.58 meters high, as well as a base platform that is 1.95 meters high. It is constructed from granite. The front of the base is engraved with the life story of Martyr Wang Wenru. The base platform is surrounded by cement railings, and there are stairways on the east and west sides. The eastern side has 13 steps, while the western side has 3.

The monument was built by the People’s Government of Chengmai County in memory of Martyr Wang Wenru, and rebuilt by the People’s Government of Hainan Province. It is a Hainan Provincial Patriotic Education Base.

Wang Wenru, also known by his childhood name Jiqing and also called Wang Wenyu, was born on August 21, 1899, into a poor farming family in Liangtian Village, Beiyan Township (now Wenru Township), Chengmai County, Guangdong Province (now Hainan Province). He had thick eyebrows, large eyes, a broad face, a medium build, and was sturdy and strong. He had a strong sense of justice, was quick-thinking and full of ideas, and acted decisively and boldly. His father, Wang Jianbang, was a hardworking and honest farmer; his mother, surnamed Li, was from Yuwei Village, Beiyan Township, and was widely praised as a virtuous wife and good mother. She gave birth to three sons and one daughter, with Wang Wenru being the third son.
