Yubao Port Landing Operation Memorial Monument

The Yubao Port Landing Operation Memorial Monument is located in Qiaotou Town, Chengmai County. It was built to commemorate the martyrs who bravely sacrificed their lives during the People's Liberation Army’s amphibious landing operation at Yubao Port. The front of the monument base is inscribed with details about the landing operation. Ma Baishan wrote the inscription for the monument. In February 1949, Chairman Mao Zedong initiated the Hainan Island Liberation Campaign, ordering the Fourth Field Army to prepare the 40th and 43rd Armies for the attack on Hainan. Following the successful covert landings of two pioneer battalions, on March 27, 1950, Liu Zhenhua, Director of the Political Department of the 118th Division of the 40th Army, along with Ma Baishan, Deputy Commander of the Qiongya Column, led a reinforced regiment of 2,937 officers and soldiers. They set off from Denglou Cape on the Leizhou Peninsula aboard 81 various-sized sailing boats and landed forcefully at Yubao Port. With the cooperation of local party, government, military, and civilian forces, they achieved victory, creating favorable conditions for the main force’s subsequent seaborne liberation of Hainan Island.

Inscription on the Yubao Port Landing Operation Memorial Monument:

With the cooperation of local party, government, military, and civilian forces, they achieved victory, creating favorable conditions for the main force’s seaborne landing and the liberation of Hainan Island. This monument is hereby erected in commemoration.
