Baishi Cave

Baishi Cave is located atop Baishi Ridge and takes its name from the ridge. It gained fame through the legendary immortal Bai Yuchan.

Baishi Ridge, also known as Baicha Mountain, lies to the west of Tiandun Village in the state-run Kunlun Farm, 60 kilometers from Jinjiang Town and 10 kilometers west of the Kunlun Farm headquarters. As the highest peak of the Changling Mountain range, it stands 511 meters above sea level, making it the second highest peak in Chengmai County. The mountain stretches from north to south, with lush forests, crystal-clear springs, and cascading waters in its middle section, resembling the shape of a turtle — a formation geomancy refers to as a "Lianzheng hair-root mountain." At the summit stands a towering, uniquely beautiful massive rock, within which there is a cave that can accommodate several people for a banquet. The giant rock is grayish-white, living up to its name. At the peak lies a "Heavenly Pool," locally called a pond or well, where spring water flows from cracks in the huge rock into the pool, never drying up even during prolonged droughts. When the rock turns black during a long drought, rain is sure to follow. During the Song Dynasty, Bai Yuchan often visited Baishi Ridge, lived in Baishi Cave, drank from its spring, and composed a poem titled “Visiting Baishi Cave.” Since then, scholars, literati, local gentry, and notable figures have flocked here out of admiration. Legend has it that at that time, jade-like herbs, immortal grasses, leftover elixirs, and medicinal pills still remained. Inspired by the scenery, many spontaneous poems and writings were created. It became an ancient scenic highlight of Chengmai County.

Scenic spots such as Baishi Cave, the Jalongping Forest Area, and Jiulegong Hot Springs are all situated within the mountains of the Mehe Anti-Japanese Base and Liucui Mountain Anti-Japanese Base, close to the former sites of the Qiongya Special Committee and the Qiongya Column Headquarters. This makes it an excellent destination in southwestern Chengmai County for developing red tourism, green eco-tourism, ethnic culture experiences, and leisure vacation travel.
