Jigong Mountain

Originally named Shilan Ridge and also known as Shanzhu Ridge, Jigong Mountain is located in Wenru Town, Chengmai County, about 1.5 kilometers from the headquarters of the state-owned Honggang Farm.

In August 1993, during a geological survey, the Hainan Geological Survey Team discovered a rock on the mountain top that stands about 5 meters tall and 2.8 meters wide, with a shape and posture remarkably similar to the image of Jigong from the TV series. The resemblance quickly spread by word of mouth, drawing crowds of onlookers who all agreed on the likeness, leading to the naming of the rock as “Jigong Rock.” Consequently, the mountain itself became known as Jigong Mountain. At the same time, 73 other rock formations resembling “Jigong’s Footprints,” “Bagua Fan,” “Turtle Crouching on Golden Fields,” “Carp Leaping Over the Dragon Gate,” “Shape-shifting Monkey King,” “Dark Monkey in the Clouds,” “Stone Monkey Gazing at the Sky,” and “Visitor from the Heavens” were also discovered. Additionally, about 50 meters in front of Jigong Rock, there are rocks resembling an altar and a chair—all naturally formed. This site is considered a natural attraction of great visual interest. Ever since the discovery of Jigong Rock, worshippers and sightseers have flocked to the area, with visitor numbers reaching up to a thousand per day at peak times. A simple shelter has been erected in front of Jigong Rock, complete with an incense table for visitors to offer prayers.

In August 1993, the People’s Government of Chengmai County issued a notice explicitly stating the protection of the Jigong Mountain Scenic Area. The Hainan Provincial Bureau of Agriculture and Reclamation approved the project for planned development. Honggang Farm commissioned the Jiangxi Urban and Rural Planning and Design Research Institute to develop the “Hainan Jigong Mountain Tourism Area Development Plan,” which was reviewed and passed by relevant provincial and external leaders and experts. On July 12, 1995, the Hainan Provincial Tourism Bureau also approved the plan (Document No. Qionglvyou Tongfa [1994]21).

Wenru Town: Located in the southeastern mountainous region of Chengmai County, Wenru Town lies at the junction of Chengmai, Ding’an, and Tuncheng counties, adjacent to Honggang Farm, and borders Jaluo Town to the north. The town has a well-connected road network, including the Jintun Highway leading to Jinjiang and Tuncheng, the Wending Highway to Ding’an, the Changshi Road to Chang’an, as well as the Tuxi Road, Jialang Road, and Honggang Road running through the area. It is 28 kilometers from Jinjiang, the county seat of Chengmai. The town administers 13 village committees, 72 natural villages, 6,058 households, with a total population of 25,468. The land area covers 98.18 square kilometers.
