The Ancient Volcanic Rock Villages of Chengmai are cultural heritage sites protected by Hainan Province.

The Ancient Volcanic Rock Villages of Chengmai are located in Chengmai County and date back to the Ming and Qing dynasties. They are listed as cultural heritage sites under the protection of Hainan Province.

Protected Area:

Meilang Village: The densely concentrated area of traditional volcanic rock architecture in the village center is designated as the core protected zone, with a core conservation area of 68,309.29 square meters.

Damai Village: Most of the traditionally valuable clusters of historic buildings are incorporated into the core protected zone. The specific boundary of the core protected zone is subject to the "Protected Area Zoning Map," covering an area of approximately 2.5 hectares.

Yangkun Village: The core section of the ancient Yangkun Village designates most of the traditionally valuable clusters of historic buildings as the core protected zone. The scope of the core protected zone mainly covers the area where historic buildings are densely located. The specific boundary is subject to the "Protected Area Zoning Map," with an area of approximately 2.4 hectares.

Longji Village: The boundary extends from the west side of the village’s feng shui forest in the east, to the laundry pool in the south, to the east side of the feng shui forest in the west of the village in the west, and to the south side of the newly built residences in the northern part of the village in the north. The total area of the core protected zone is approximately 6.29 hectares.

Luoyi Village: The boundary extends from the outer east wall of the Li Ancestral Hall in the east, to the southeast including the Wenchang Pagoda, Guanyin Temple, and the site of the ancient post station, to the southern banks of the Rihu and Yuehu lakes in front of the village in the south, to the west side of the Dai Ancestral Hall in the west, to the northwest including the rural road at the northwest end of the Younda Tower and Houwang Temple in the northwest, to the northern bank of Xinghu Lake and the northern end of the traditional architecture at Tieling House in the north, and to the northern end of the traditional architecture in the northeast including the Zhonglie Ancestral Hall in the northeast. The total area of the core protected zone is approximately 18.83 hectares.

Shique Village: The boundary extends from the west outer wall of the Wenlin Feng Ancestral Hall in the west, to the southwest bank of the Yinma Lake in the southwest, to the southern bank of the Yinma Lake in front of the village in the south, to the southern end of the traditional volcanic rock architectural cluster of the ancient village in the southeast, and to the east, northeast, and north boundaries including the eastern, northeastern, and northern edges of the traditional architectural cluster. The total area of the core protected zone is approximately 7.37 hectares.

Tanchang Village: The boundary extends from the east side of the kapok forest area where the Zeng family resides in the southern part of the village in the east, to the main lane at the southernmost part of the village in the south, to the west side of the Tanchang School in the west, and to the main lane that divides the ancient village from the new residential area in the north. The total area of the core protected zone is approximately 5.19 hectares.

Daoji Village: Most of the traditionally valuable clusters of historic buildings are incorporated into the core protected zone. The scope of the core protected zone mainly covers the area where historic buildings are densely located. The specific boundary is subject to the "Protected Area Zoning Map," with an area of approximately 1.7 hectares.

Ruyin Village: The core section of the ancient Ruyin Village incorporates most of the traditionally valuable clusters of historic buildings into the core protected zone. The scope of the core protected zone extends from the pond in the west to the boundary of the village construction land in the east. The specific boundary is subject to the "Protected Area Zoning Map," with an area of approximately 0.88 hectares.
