Qianzhuang Site (Fourth Batch of Provincial-Level Protected Sites)

Era: Shang Dynasty

Location: South bank of the Yellow River, Qianzhuang Natural Village, Yadi Village, Podi Township, Pinglu County

The site is situated on the second-level terrace of the loess hills on the south bank of the Yellow River in Qianzhuang Natural Village. It is higher in the north and lower in the south. About ten meters to the east, below a cliff, is the Shigao River, and on the west and south sides, it is bordered by steep stone cliffs within twenty meters. The site’s platform resembles a peninsula, covering an area of approximately 10,000 square meters. A riverside highway cuts across the terrace, causing excavation damage to about 3,000 square meters. The second layer of the site belongs to the Shang Dynasty cultural stratum, with a thickness of about 0.80–3 meters. Its cultural content is attributed to the Erligang type of the Shang Dynasty. Artifacts unearthed include bronze ritual vessels, various pottery items, stone tools, bone tools, shell tools, and oracle bones. Major discovered cultural remains include ash pits and semi-subterranean houses.
