Huaping Nature Reserve

Huaping Nature Reserve is a national-level nature reserve.

Huaping National Nature Reserve is located at the junction of Longsheng and Lingui counties in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, covering an area of 17,400 hectares. It was established in 1961 with the approval of the Guangxi Autonomous Region People's Government and was upgraded to a national-level reserve in 1978. Its primary conservation targets are the silver fir and the mid-subtropical evergreen broad-leaved forest.

This area is part of the Yuecheng Mountain range, a branch of the Nanling Mountain system, with most elevations ranging between 1,200 and 1,600 meters and a maximum elevation of 1,895.5 meters. The terrain is classified as mid-mountain. The region has a subtropical monsoon climate, and the typical vegetation is evergreen broad-leaved forest. There are 1,114 species of higher plants in the area, including 12 that are under national key protection. Among these, the silver fir is the most famous. A tertiary relict plant unique to China, the silver fir has survived since ancient times and is now quite rare. It is listed as a Class I nationally protected plant, with over 1,000 trees found within the reserve. The area also boasts abundant wildlife resources, with 118 species of higher animals, including the rhesus monkey, forest musk deer, and Lady Amherst’s pheasant, all of which are under national key protection.

Huaping is also known as the "Land of Waterfalls in the South." Within the forest, there are over a hundred large and small waterfalls. Some are like galloping horses—surging, majestic, and awe-inspiring; others resemble ribbons, hanging curtains, or jade splashes, exuding gentleness and beauty.

The reserve is filled with beautiful scenery and can be divided into major scenic areas: Hongmao River, Cujiang, Hongtan, and Guangfu. The ecological environment here is unique—warm in winter, cool in summer, with pleasant weather and stunning landscapes. It serves as an eco-tourism destination that combines sightseeing, scientific research, educational programs, exploration, hiking, summer retreats, and vacation leisure.

Huaping National Nature Reserve is one of Guangxi’s four major scenic destinations and a key ecological tourism site in Longsheng County. It is known as the "Land of Waterfalls in the South," the "Kingdom of Animals," and the "World of Flowers."

Accommodation Information

There are two large reception centers in the scenic area: the Anjiangping Reception Center and the Huaping Science and Education Park Reception Center. The Anjiangping Reception Center has five ethnic-style wooden buildings and guesthouses, offering a total of 120 beds. The Huaping Science and Education Park has hotels and forest cabins with 130 beds. Both centers provide standard rooms equipped with TVs, water heaters, bathrooms, and more. Additionally, there are two reception points: the Cujiang Ecological Observation Station Reception Point in the Huaping Scenic Area, with 25 standard rooms and 25 beds; and the Hongtan Station Reception Point in the Guangfu Scenic Area, with 20 regular beds.
