At the Xishan Shaole Scenic Area, you can see Mao'er Mountain in Xing'an and the highest peak in the Longji area of Longsheng County—Fuping Bao, which stands at an altitude of 1,918 meters. From here, you can overlook terraced fields spanning 40–50 square kilometers. Watching the sunrise in the early morning, the winding terraces flow like clouds and water, resembling dancing musical notes composing a symphony of the earth, guarding the region’s timeless years.

Best Travel Seasons

Suitable all year round. The scenery of the Longji Terraced Fields changes endlessly with the seasons. In May, Longsheng offers a grand line-drawing spectacle, and for half a month after the 15th day of the fourth lunar month, the water-filled terraces present another marvelous view. Early April features the Longsheng Red Clothes Festival, and October hosts the Miao New Year, with numerous festivals bringing their own vibrancy and excitement.

Tips

1. The scenic area enforces a unified ticket purchase and checkpoint ticket inspection policy. Please carry your ticket with you and proactively show your ticket or valid ID at each checkpoint for inspection.

2. The roads are winding and hazardous. To ensure visitor safety, the scenic area operates a dedicated shuttle service. Vehicles with more than 9 seats must transfer to the scenic shuttle bus, with a round-trip fare of 30 RMB per person. Most roads are mountainous, with sharp turns and narrow lanes; the speed limit is 20 km/h. Please drive cautiously, stay in your lane, and do not overtake.

3. Minors, seniors aged 60 and above, people with disabilities, and visitors with hypertension or heart conditions must be accompanied by an adult when visiting the scenic area.

4. The scenic walking paths are made of stone slabs. Please pay attention to safety while walking, avoid wearing high heels on the stone paths, and remember: “Walk without sightseeing, sightsee without walking.” In rainy weather, bring rain gear and watch your step to avoid slipping. Do not stray from designated walking paths, and never climb on observation decks to prevent falls.

5. For photography within the scenic area, please follow all management regulations, respect the customs of ethnic minorities, and stay safe. Do not leave walking paths or observation decks to climb for photos. Entering farmland paths or crop cultivation areas for photography is strictly prohibited. If any crops are damaged, compensation to farmers is required.

6. Animals are wild—do not approach cats, dogs, cattle, or horses in the villages. When encountering horses or cattle on the road, step aside toward the mountain side.

7. All village guesthouses in the scenic area are wooden buildings. Pay attention to fire safety upon check-in and do not use open flames inside the wooden structures or in the wild. These guesthouses are independently operated by local families, and visitors may freely choose consumption options.

8. When exploring the village on foot to find scenic spots, there are many forks in the path. Be sure to stick to the stone paths. If unsure, ask local farmers working along the road—they are usually very willing to give directions.

9. Always ask whether there is an admission fee before watching performances in the villages.

10. It is common for locals to offer to guide or carry bags for tourists. You may accept, but agree on a price first. Typically, a 2-hour trip costs around 10 or 20 RMB.

11. Best spots for viewing and photography: The Ping’an “Seven Stars Around the Moon” scenic spot offers beautiful photo opportunities and is a favorite among photography enthusiasts.
