Xiwu Ruins (First Batch of Provincial-Level Protected Sites)

Era: Neolithic Age

Location: 250 meters south of Xiwu Village, Hengqiao Township, Xinjiang County

Situated on the western edge of the Linfen Basin, this site lies on a terrace south of the Fen River. Surveyed in 1954 and re-examined in 1996, it has not been excavated. Exposed cliff sections reveal numerous ash pit remains. Artifacts include jars, bowls, basins, and pitchers, mostly made of clay red pottery, sand-tempered gray pottery, and some painted pottery fragments, with decorative patterns such as cord marks and basket weave. Stone tools such as axes, plows, and hoes have also been found. It is a remnant of the Miaodigou II Culture, and the site remains relatively well-preserved.

Hengqiao Township: Located along the Fen and Hui rivers and the Emei Ridge area, Hengqiao Township governs 47 administrative villages with a population of 42,000 and arable land covering 79,000 mu. The area boasts a simple and honest folk culture, abundant local produce, convenient transportation, and fast communication. To achieve the grand goal of building a moderately prosperous society in all respects, the township Party committee and government have proposed the development vision of making Hengqiao a major vegetable-producing township, a major livestock-raising township, a major fruit- and forest-product-producing township, and a strong private-economy township.
