Ancient Fortresses

There are four fortresses in Ningming County: Baogai Mountain Fortress, Niutou Mountain Fortress, Jipu Mountain Fortress, and Guanyin Mountain Fortress. All were constructed under the supervision of the renowned anti-French general Su Yuanchun during the Guangxu reign of the Qing Dynasty, serving as a testament to the people of Ningming resisting foreign invaders.

Baogai Mountain Fortress is located on Baogai Mountain, south of Zhilang Village in Zhilang Township. Built from quarried stone, it is exceptionally sturdy, with the gate inscribed “Zhen Si Tai” (Solemn Contemplation Platform). Niutou Mountain Fortress is situated on Niutou Mountain in the south of Zhai’an Township, built from stone, with the gate inscribed “Zhen Ning Tai” (Tranquil Pacification Platform). It originally housed one German Krupp cannon.

Jipu Mountain Fortress is located on Jipu Mountain, east of Ban’an Village in Tongmian Township. Built from stone, it is very solid and originally had one German Krupp cannon installed.

Guanyin Mountain Fortress is located on Guanyin Mountain, south of Baiquan Village in Mingjiang Township, and originally housed one German Krupp cannon.
