Baili Naling River Valley Scenic Area

The Naling Cave Tourist Attraction is located in the suburbs of Lingyun County, approximately 1 kilometer from the county town, and features typical karst geological landforms. The cave system stretches 1,500 meters in an east-west direction, forming a “9” shape with a two-tiered structure. The lower level consists of an underground river that is 880 meters long, while the upper level is a dry cave spanning 620 meters. The vertical distance between the two levels is 28 meters. Carved over hundreds of millions of years through erosion and sedimentation, the cave is deep and spacious, with crystal-clear streams whose murmurs resemble gentle melodies. Stalactites and stalagmites take on a myriad of fantastical shapes and shimmer in dazzling hues: some form winding corridors skirting the cliffs; others resemble flying galaxies dotted with twinkling stars; still others look like cascading floral layers and towering stone pillars, all incredibly lifelike. The cave is divided into five major scenic areas and 32 individual sites. The extraordinarily diverse stalactites in Naling Cave are extremely rare among caves worldwide, earning it the reputation as the “Most Magical Cave in Asia.”

“No need to see other mountains after visiting the Five Great Mountains, and no need to see other caves after visiting Lingyun.” The Baili Naling River Valley Scenic Area is located about 1 kilometer north of Yinghui Mountain in the county town, facing the Shuiyuan Cave from afar. Naling Cave was first developed in the late 1970s and is known as the “Number One Cave in Asia.” Stretching about three kilometers in length, the cave houses a river that flows year-round. Inside, the stalactite columns, draperies, coral-like formations, and animal-shaped structures display dazzling colors and fantastic shapes. Particularly notable are the 218 “lotus basins,” which surpass the world-renowned “Lotus Cave” in Yangshuo, Guilin, in terms of shape, scale, quality, and quantity. These formations hold significant value for both appreciation and scientific research, and are hailed as the “Number One Cave in the South.”

Originally named “Naling Cave” (那灵洞), the name “Naling” comes from the Zhuang language, meaning “near the fields at the foot of the mountain where monkeys often appear.” The cave also earned its fame for its breathtaking interior, symbolizing the concept of “embracing the vitality of all things.” Naling Cave currently features five developed scenic areas and twenty-eight attractions, with a recommended tour duration of about one and a half hours. Compared to other karst caves in China, Naling Cave stands out for its wonder, danger, peculiarity, and beauty. The cave teems with thrilling sights and bizarre rock formations, with enormous, glittering stalactites appearing as if they might fall at any moment—like the aftermath of a battle or a recent tectonic shift. Adding to the wonder are the newly formed, tiny yet sparkling stalactites, no bigger than a little finger, which leave visitors in awe.
