Sicheng Confucius Temple

The Sicheng Confucius Temple is a national AAA-level tourist attraction and a cultural heritage site.

The Sicheng Confucius Temple in Lingyun County is situated on the east bank of the Sishui River along Taiping Road in the county town. Originally constructed in the 25th year of the Kangxi reign of the Qing Dynasty (1686 AD), it was subsequently renovated and expanded multiple times during the Qianlong, Jiaqing, and Daoguang periods, bringing the temple’s total area to 2,172 m². However, due to various historical factors, only a three-bay hall dedicated to Confucius remained intact, while the rest of the temple structures were destroyed. To promote traditional culture, revive the historical charm of Lingyun Ancient Town, and boost local tourism, the county government decided to rebuild the Confucius Temple on the foundation of the surviving structure, partially restoring its original scale and enhancing its architectural layout.

The reconstruction project of the Lingyun County Confucius Temple expanded upon the existing hall to include a five-bay Dacheng Hall (Hall of Great Achievement), with structures arranged sequentially from the front gate: the Dacheng Gate, Pan Pond, Lingxing Gate, and Wenchang Gate. At the rear, the Zunjing Pavilion was added, along with side rooms, the Ritual Gate, and the Path Gate. The total construction area is 940 m², with an overall project cost of 3.715 million yuan. The project was undertaken by Hubei Yinzhu Ancient Architecture & Landscape Engineering Co., Ltd., commencing construction in September 2008 and completing in April 2009.
