Purple Cliff Woodcutter’s Song is located 2 kilometers south of Jiuzhou Scenic Area, about 200 meters to the right side of the Ping (Tiandong Pingma)–Long (Jingxi Longbang) Highway. It is a limestone mountain forest with steep purple cliffs. The surrounding area is covered with dense green shade. On the stone cliff halfway up the mountain are engraved four large characters “紫壁樵歌” (Purple Cliff Woodcutter’s Song), carved during the Ming Dynasty. Below the stone cliff, there is also an inscription of a poem. Legend has it that in ancient times, there was a woodcutter who was good at singing folk songs. He came here every day to chop wood and sing, and over time, people gathered here to sing together, forming a song fair. Because the color of the cliff is purple, it is called “Purple Cliff Woodcutter’s Song.” It is one of the famous Eight Scenic Spots of Jingxi, known as “Enjoying the Shade and Rain at Purple Cliff Woodcutter’s Song.”
