The Scenery of Daxing

The scenery of Daxing is located in Nantan, about 20 kilometers south of Jingxi City. It is part of a karst peak-forest valley area. The Nantan River is a tributary of the main course of the Heishui River. Its surface source originates at the foot of the rocks on the eastern side of Yuwengwangtong Mountain in Yuanyuwang Village, Huanhe Village, Xinjing Town, where the water collects in the Dalong Pool. The pool water flows southward to become the Longtan River, which later receives the water of the Pangling River, Qulai River, and Equan River, thus forming the source of the Nantan River. The Nantan River is 32 kilometers long, with karst peak forests and valleys along both banks, as well as fields and farmland. It passes through 15 villages (and streets), including Aibu and Daxing. In Aibu Village, there is a continuous three-tiered waterfall that creates a spectacular scene. Below the 19th Crossing Bridge, the river features a series of rapids with splashing waves and mist-filled air, making it extremely difficult even for fish to swim through—hence the name “Nantan River,” meaning “Difficult Rapids.” Another interpretation suggests that “Nantan” comes from the local Zhuang language, where “nan” means cliff and “tan” refers to a series of levels, describing how the river’s rocky rapids resemble steep cliffs arranged in tiers, hence the name.

In the river section of Daxing Village, the waterway splits to form eight small islands, each surrounded by water on all sides. Within the Daxing Scenic Area, elegant peaks rise sharply, green waters wind gently, and village bamboo groves add to the serene landscape, creating a picturesque border gallery. Being here fills one with peace and joy. In the Daxing area, the river is wide, and there is an ancient bridge with nineteen arches. The riverbed features numerous rapids and many large and small waterfalls, as well as uniquely shaped rocks, offering very pleasant scenery. Lush green bamboo and idyllic farmland line both banks, making it a great spot for rafting, swimming, vacationing, fishing, barbecuing, and more. It is a beautiful natural pastoral landscape and also an undeveloped, pristine tourist destination.
