The Ancient Dragon River Scenic Area is situated in the middle section of the river, stretching from Guliu Wharf in Xiangbei Township in the north to Longzhou Island in Xiadian in the south. Historically referred to as Siwu Stream, it covers a total distance of 10 kilometers. Behind Guliu Wharf lies the Ancient Dragon Cave, whose entrance is 7 meters wide and 5 meters high, featuring a cluster of stalactites that resemble an upright ancient banyan tree. Inside the cave are multiple large chambers and a skylight opening. The entire cave stretches for several thousand meters, with fantastical landscapes. Drifting along the river, you’ll pass by scenic spots along the banks such as Crown Mountain, Yima Pillar, Ancient Buddha Facing West, Dragon Lady Rock, Mandarin Duck Cave, and Six Sisters Rock. Dragon Lady Rock emits a clear spring year-round, with the cave entrance being over 15 meters high and 20 meters wide. About 10 meters into the cave by raft, you can see the spring’s eye. In the cold winter, the warm spring air emanates from this spot, often accompanied by wisps of mist, and local villagers frequently come here to bathe. Legend has it that in ancient times, a dragon lady dressed in white silk appeared here, which inspired the traditional coloratura opera “The Dragon Lady and Han Peng.” Downstream, after drifting over 100 meters past the Golden Wave Leaping Carp Dam, you’ll enter the Mandarin Duck Cave, where a natural waterfall lies deep inside, often visited by playful fish. On the cliff by Liumei Village, there is a rock formation called Six Sisters Rock. Legend says that the rock originally housed seven fairies, but one was tricked and eaten by a “Yabian Nai” (a mythical bear said to prey on children), leaving only six fairies—hence the name Six Sisters. The Yabian Nai was later struck and killed by the Thunder God on the mountain south of Six Sisters Rock, its tail severed and still visible today on the thousand-meter white cliffs of Shuangtuo Mountain north of Six Sisters Rock. The mountain hit by lightning split vertically from top to bottom, creating a feature known as “Heaven’s Crack.” Carved into the thousand-meter white cliffs is the rock inscription “Rafting Here Again,” left by Chen Jingshi, the county magistrate of Tianhe during the Qing Dynasty.
