Liuhézhài — the former residence of Liu Sanjie, the legendary Zhuang ethnic song goddess, is a major attraction along the renowned Xiàjiǎn River scenic zone in Guangxi. Located in Mǎ’ān Village, Liǔsānjǐe Township, approximately 8 kilometers northeast of the city, it sits on the eastern bank of the Xiàjiǎn River and spans over ten acres. The village still preserves the homes where Liu Sanjie, A-Niu, and Jinmei once lived, as well as traditional structures such as a Zhuang-style entrance gate, Zhuang totems, farming tools, and a teahouse. In 2002, an ethnic performance venue was renovated with significant investment, now featuring strong ethnic characteristics and capable of accommodating over 500 visitors to enjoy Zhuang folk performances simultaneously. Lush and shaded, Liuhézhài is filled with birdsong and floral scents. Several century-old longan trees (commonly known as “love oath trees”) stand within the village, said to be where Liu Sanjie and A-Niu pledged their lifelong bond. The villagers are warm, simple, and generous. The most captivating experiences here include joining in folk antiphonal singing and ethnic performances. Activities such as singing mountain songs, enjoying colorful tunes, the bride-carrying game, watching the Mákòu dance, bamboo-board dance, and bamboo-pole dance, as well as sampling ethnic cuisine, transport you back to the era of Liu Sanjie and A-Niu, allowing you to escape the hustle of the city and the stresses of work while immersing yourself in tranquility and leisure.

Visitors can reach the scenic area by boat or by car. Every weekend and holiday, Liuhézhài bustles with activity as streams of tourists come to experience the charm of Liu Sanjie’s folk songs and Zhuang dances. Today, Liuhézhài has become a popular highlight of Yízhōu’s tourism offerings.
