Xiangbei Big Waterwheel Scenic Area in Yizhou

Located on the upper reaches of the Linjiang River, it stretches 10 kilometers from Xiangbei Latuo Village in the north to Gulong Wharf in the south. Heading up from Gulong Bay, behind Chetou Village there is a cave with fantastical rock formations, and deep inside the cave, a stream flows all the way down to the mountain foot. Along the riverbanks, several ancient and mysterious large waterwheels turn slowly in the water. Behind Laguang Village along the river lies a Pearl Cave, where the ground at the cave entrance is covered with countless natural stones of various sizes that resemble glistening pearls. Stepping on them, the stones roll smoothly underfoot, creating a marvelous sensation. Inside the cave, there are several vividly shaped stone dragons, thick as baskets and dozens of meters long, coiled around. There are also towering stalactite umbrellas and spectacular waterfall curtains. Traveling downstream along the river, you’ll find a Lychee Cave, at the mouth of which stands a natural stone archway dozens of meters high by the riverside. Paddling into the cave, you can see streams and waterfalls inside. By climbing up through the Tongtian Cave, you can follow a path and exit the cave from the back mountain. In the middle of the river at Laguang Village ferry dock, there is a hundred-acre oasis island of green bamboo forest, where the Big Waterwheel Manor is located.

The scenic area features mysterious clusters of large waterwheels and preserves the original ecological culture of Liu Sanjie folk songs. Visitors can take bamboo rafts to tour the Water Curtain Cave and Lychee Cave, hike along trails to explore the riverside bamboo forests, climb up to overlook the pastoral scenery, visit the Pearl Cave attractions, stay with local farmers to experience rural life, and explore the original ecological culture of Liu Sanjie folk songs.

Located in the center of the scenic area, several large waterwheels with diameters of up to 18 meters stand majestically by the riverside.

Pearl Cave

Situated on the mountainside behind the northern part of the scenic area, the cave’s entrance hall is spacious, with naturally accumulated cave pearls over a foot thick—stepping on them is an incredible experience.
