Hengdian World Studios is a national AAAAA-level tourist attraction.

Hengdian World Studios, located in Hengdian, Dongyang City, China, is a national AAAAA-level tourist area. It is 160 kilometers from Hangzhou and within a four-hour transportation and tourism economic circle covering Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shanghai, Fujian, and Jiangxi. It is directly accessible by plane, train, or highway. Since 1996, the Hengdian Group has invested a total of 3 billion yuan to build Hengdian World Studios. It now comprises 13 film and television shooting bases spanning thousands of years of history and encompassing regional characteristics from both the north and south of China, including Guangzhou Street, Hong Kong Street, Ming & Qing Palace, Qin Shi Huang Palace, Riverside Scene at Qingming Festival, Dream Valley, Pinyan Cave, Dazhi Temple, and Ming & Qing Residential Buildings Expo City, as well as two large-scale modern studios. In early 2004, Hengdian World Studios was established as China’s only national-level film and television industry experimental zone.

The Hengdian Film Industry Zone houses 305 film and television companies and is home to the first创业板-listed film company in China—Huayi Brothers. In 2008, enterprises within the zone achieved operating revenue of 1.82 billion yuan and generated tax revenue of 150 million yuan; in the first half of 2009, despite the downturn, they achieved operating revenue of 1.43 billion yuan and paid total taxes and fees of 110 million yuan. To date, the zone has hosted over 600 film and television crews and produced more than 16,000 film and television episodes.

The grand scale of the bases and the rich variety of shooting scenes have attracted filmmakers from around the world to come to Hengdian for location shooting. At the same time, industries providing various supporting services for film and television production have emerged, offering professional services such as set construction, equipment and vehicle rental, props, costumes, and makeup, as well as a large pool of extras. The Hengdian Performers’ Union has over 2,000 contract actors from across the country, known as the "Hengpiao (Hengdian drifting) community."

The rise of the film and television industry has also driven the development of Hengdian’s leisure tourism. Hengdian World Studios has become a national AAAA-level tourist area. Hengdian World Studios is a national tourism administration-designated AAAA-level tourist area, the world’s largest film and television production base, and China’s only "national-level film and television industry experimental zone."
