The Hengdian Ming-Qing Folk Houses Expo City began preparation in 2001 and officially opened to the public on October 1, 2008. Covering an area of over 900 acres, it is a comprehensive film and television cultural tourism destination integrating ancient architecture preservation, film and TV shooting, tourism, and art exhibitions. It is also one of the oldest, most invested-in, and richest in content scenic areas within Hengdian World Studios, divided into two major themed zones: “Peach Blossom Spring” and “Qinhuai River.” The “Peach Blossom Spring” zone features over 120 relocated residential buildings from the Ming, Qing, and Republican periods across Zhejiang, Anhui, and other regions. As a result, the site has been designated as a “Demonstration Base of the China Cultural Heritage Foundation” and a “Chinese Ancient Residential Preservation Base.” Whitewashed walls, black tiles, brick-and-stone carvings, bracket arms, lattice windows, and more are the masterpieces of countless artisans. Pavilions, theaters, ancestral halls, residences, and the Tunxi Old Street present a folk painting scroll of millennia-old history and culture. The “Qinhuai River” zone is modeled after the bustling ancient capital scenery centered around the Confucius Temple in Nanjing’s “Ten-Mile Qinhuai” area during the Ming and Qing dynasties. It recreates key structures such as the Confucius Temple, Jiangnan Examination Hall, Eight Beauties Lane, Number One Scholar Mansion, and Peach Leaf Ferry. Miniaturized reconstructions of the Yuanming New Garden Exhibition Hall, the “unique wonder of China” Fujian Tulou houses, and a high-tech 4D motion cinema are additional highlights. The area also offers performances of Chinese traditional arts, film excerpts, and folk programs for visitors to enjoy and participate in. The scenes filmed by numerous film crews, along with the brilliant performances of stars, create endless fun and make visitors reluctant to leave.

Currently, the Hengdian Ming-Qing Folk Houses Expo City houses a number of art exhibition venues: the Chen Changfen Art Museum, Hengdian Group Entrepreneurial Achievements Exhibition Hall, China Bamboo Art Museum, Wenrong Odd Stones Collection Hall, Dongyang Woodcarving Museum, Huang Changling Root Carving Art Museum, and others. There is also the Yuanming New Garden Exhibition Hall, which displays the most authoritative panoramic sand table model of the Old Summer Palace in China, offering visitors a chance to immerse themselves in the classic charm of ancient homes while experiencing a variety of artistic atmospheres.

Ancient Tomb Adventure

An imitation ancient tomb offers an exciting and thrilling adventure journey. It is mainly divided into four exhibition areas: “Ghost Gate Pass,” “The Netherworld,” “Ancient Tomb Adventure,” and “Return to Life.” Starting from entering the Ghost Gate Pass, sound, light, and electricity effects are used to create a terrifying atmosphere. Hungry ghosts try to grab you, visual illusions simulate the feeling of being pierced by a thousand swords, and soon you find yourself falling into an abyss. There are also vampire bats, soul-summoning monsters, and more, combining motion and stillness to give you a heart-pounding experience. Visitors can personally experience ancient Chinese legends, satisfy their curiosity and sense of adventure, and gain an unforgettable experience.

Peach Blossom Spring

The “Peach Blossom Spring” zone gathers nearly 200 relocated residential buildings from the Ming, Qing, and Republican periods across Zhejiang, Anhui, and Jiangxi.
