Dongyang Hengdian Pingyan Cave Mansion is a provincial-level scenic area in Zhejiang Province, known as a blessed site for Taoist practice and often hailed as the “No. 1 Cave Heaven in the South of the Yangtze.” Along the steep cliffs are built Taoist temples and shrines such as the Three Pure Ones Hall, the Jade Emperor Temple, the Temple of the Yellow Immortal, the Eight Immortals Shrine, and the Celestial Master Temple. The area’s four main features are its rugged cliffs, secluded caves, red autumn leaves, and hanging architecture. The typical Danxia landform has created steep cliffs, bizarre caves, dense forests, along with features such as plank walks, pavilions, the Heavenly Gate, caves, and a cable car, offering breathtaking yet naturally formed scenery.

Pingyan Cave Mansion is famed for its peculiar peaks, extraordinary caves, strange mountains, and unusual rocks. Its peculiarity lies in the fact that the southeastern face of the mountain is as sheer as if cut by a knife, yet the mountaintop is unexpectedly flat and gently undulating, rather than rising abruptly into the clouds. From a distance, it resembles an insurmountable natural barrier, giving a powerful visual impact. Its strangeness is embodied in the unfathomably deep “Jin Sijian (Thousand-Silk Ravine).” The rocks, eroded over time by wind and rain, take on myriad strange shapes. Buddhist statues embedded in caves of various sizes stir the imagination of visitors. With its layered peaks, deep valleys, serene springs, and lush forests, this masterpiece of nature not only offers stunning scenery but also serves as an ideal filming location for movies and TV dramas of all genres. The scenic area boasts the longest sightseeing cableway in Zhejiang Province.
